The purpose of the visit is to provide guests with the opportunity to immerse
themselves into Cambodian culture as they enjoy experiential learning of
the silk production process. As well as the works of SWDC to support their
community with its various social welfare program.
Guests will understand the journey of Cambodian silk: from the tiny silk worm
egg to the finished, luxury silk product. The Mekong Blue silk products are
produced only at the Stung Treng Women’s Development Centre (SWDC)
and has received the UNESCO Seal of Excellence for Handicraft in Southeast
Asia on several occasions. This is a world class recognition that illustrates
the incredibly high quality of the Mekong Blue products. The products are
produced by a wonderfully gifted group of individuals from the impoverished
Stung Treng Province of Cambodia. The SWDC not only provides the women
and their families with a place to learn the art of silk making but also to be paid
handsomely for the efforts as the fruits of their labor are sold around the world.
